We are the data controller responsible for your personal information under this Privacy Policy.
2. What Data We Collect
When you use WeMeet, we may collect the following categories of personal data:
Account Information: Instagram ID or other social login details (used solely for login verification)
Profile Data: Username, group photo, city, and optional interests
Usage Data: Challenges played, groups met, feedback submitted, participation stats
Location Data: Approximate or precise location (if you grant permission)
Device Information: Device model, OS version, app version, IP address, crash reports
We do not collect biometric data, financial data, or sensitive personal information.
Profile Picture (Public)
We collect and store a profile picture that you choose to upload for your account. This image is used only for core app functionality (e.g., to display your profile to other users in the app and in event-related screens). The public profile picture is not used for identity verification. You can update or remove your profile picture at any time. If you delete your account, your profile picture is deleted as part of account deletion (subject only to any limited legal or security retention described elsewhere in this policy).
Identity Verification Selfie (Face Verification for Safety)
To help protect our users and reduce impersonation, fraud, and unsafe access to events, we may ask you to take a separate in-app selfie (no filters) that is used for basic one-to-one identity verification (for example, when logging in and/or when requesting to join an event). Apple may refer to this as “face data” because the selfie contains your face; however, we do NOT create or store any biometric face template, faceprint,3D face model.
For identity verification, we may generate and store a numerical face embedding (template) derived from your verification selfie to enable fast one-to-one matching in future safety checks; this embedding is used only for verification within your account and is deleted when the verification selfie is replaced or when your account is deleted.
Any face-matching analysis is performed only to complete the verification, and any derived/processed face data generated during verification is not retained.
Retention (Explicit Statement That Face Data Is Not Retained):
- We do not retain any biometric face data (templates/embeddings/3D models) at all.
- We retain only the verification selfie image as long as it is needed for ongoing safety verification. This is not stored indefinitely.
How Long We Store the Verification Selfie and Why:
We store the verification selfie for a limited period because repeated safety checks require a stable reference image to confirm that the same person is using the account. The verification selfie is stored:
- while your account is active and you continue to use verification features, and
- until you replace it, request deletion, or delete your account.
Additionally, we delete the verification selfie if the account is inactive for an extended period (e.g., 24 months) or sooner if required by applicable law or our security processes. This specific retention period exists to support safety verification across multiple sessions while avoiding indefinite storage.
Third-Party Sharing:
We do not share your verification selfie, your public profile photo, or any face verification data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. We also do not use third-party providers to store or retain biometric face data on our behalf for identity verification. If we ever change this in the future (for example, to use a specialized verification service provider), we will update this policy to name the provider(s), explain what is shared, why it is shared, whether the provider stores it, and the provider’s retention period.
User Controls:
You can update your public profile picture and you may request deletion or replacement of your verification selfie. If you delete your account, both images are deleted as part of account deletion (subject only to any limited legal or security retention described elsewhere in this policy).
3. How We Use Your Data
We use your data to:
Provide, personalize, and improve the App experience
Match users in proximity for group challenges
Facilitate push notifications and challenge results
Analyze usage trends and improve features
Ensure safety and monitor content moderation
Comply with legal obligations
4. Legal Basis for Processing
We process your data on the following legal bases under Article 6 of the GDPR:
Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): For location, notifications, and optional analytics
Contractual Necessity (Art. 6(1)(b)): To operate the app and deliver services
Legitimate Interest (Art. 6(1)(f)): To ensure platform safety, fraud prevention, and service improvement
5. Who We Share Data With
We may share data with:
Service Providers: Hosting, analytics, crash reporting (e.g., Firebase, Google Analytics)
Law Enforcement: If required by law or legal process
No Third-Party Advertisers: We do not sell your data or use it for third-party ads
6. International Transfers
Your data may be transferred to and stored in countries outside the EU/EEA. Where we do so, we ensure appropriate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses).
7. Data Retention
We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to:
Provide the service
Comply with legal obligations
Resolve disputes
Inactive accounts are deleted after 24 months of no activity.
8. Your Rights
Under GDPR, you have the right to:
Access your data

Delete your data (“Right to be Forgotten”)

9. Children’s Privacy
WeMeet is intended only for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under this age.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you via the app or email where required.
